Chaing Dao Caves & Waterfalls (Northern Thailand)
Up early again to hire some scooters and then struggled to draw money from a few ATM’s. When we finally got our money and scooters we we’re on our way to the Chaing Dao Caves!!
As we drove further away from the city, the scenery just kept getting better and more beautiful!! Mountains, rivers, more trees and less people! Just the way I like it. You can feel getting more relaxed.
After about 80km on our scooters we arrived at Chiang Dao Caves with some spectacular views of the mountains. Paid 20baht to get into the caves that was really cheap… We started to walk through the crazy caves. We got to a point where we could not see anything anymore and I reached toward technology… My iPhone… Got out the touch and we kept walking slowly for 100 – 200m until there was a dead end.
We turned back and got to the starting point where you can take another route, but for this you need a lantern (which cost 100baht) which include a voluntary guide. They said that you will get lost if you go in alone (which off coarse we said we wont), but as we went deeper and deeper into the caves we understand why they said we would. As the guide explained all the stalactites and stalagmites and how they look like all types of animals, we just enjoyed the beautiful caves!! At the end we felt to give a nice tip to the guide (as they actually expect you have to). But it was worth it!!
Afters a very sweaty walk through the caves we stopped to and grabbed a nice Ice Mocha!! It was huge and totally worth the price we paid!! We finished our Mochas and jumped onto our scooters and headed for the Waterfalls!!
Arriving at the Doi Suthep-Pui National Park we went to the Waterfalls, we start walking the 10 level waterfall walk. We said that we gonna walk to the top and start from there where we could take a swim as we go down… But at Level 4 we decided screw this… we’re jumping into the water and headed straight to the waterfall! We cooled down and took some awesome photos (especially with Mads Waterproof Camera).
After a long day we grabbed a nice dinner at the Thai restaurant of Chaing Dao Nest 2. Had my fisrt water buffalo, and it was very nice!
Had a great day and now for our next mission… Walking up to the summit of Doi Chiang Dao!! Just need to first get some basic sorted tomorrow… Need to find a cheap hammock and a place to leave our luggage. Sorry Laos…. You need to wait a few more days!!
