Departure to Thailand
3 January 2013
Woke up at 3:40… 20min before my alarm was supposed to go off… Getting ready to catch my Taxi to the bus station.
Penang (taxi) – Hat Yai (mini bus) – Surat Thandi (mini bus) – Ko Tao (probably slow ferry)
Just a quick reminder on certain things when traveling through South East Asia:
1 – Toilette Paper… Always keep a toilette roll in your bag. At some point during your trip you will have to use a public toilette. At some places you will be able to sit down, but toilette paper… No no.. Just a bucket of water. Try to figure out how to use that water without any toilette paper!! Its interesting to hear all the traveler’s point of views on how to use that bucket of water 🙂
2 – Mosquito Repellent… Have it close at all times. Got into a bus after a border control and 30 mosquitos attacked me. Try to catch and kill mosquitos in a bus full of Asian people. I could see on their face expressions that I am crazy!!
3 – Travel departure… ALWAYS plan be at least 30 – 40min early on all arrival times on any transportation method use when traveling!! Especially when you flight, bus or train depart early! For the second time my taxi did not arrive as booked and had to make new arrangement, 4:30 in the morning. Luckily Im always trying to be early every time.
4 – Bags… Always keep your bags close to you and make sure its always closed and locked up. You don’t want some stranger to sneak some drugs into your bag. Your trip can end with a death sentence!
5 – Passport… Get a secure place to keep your passport! My advise… Don’t carry it with you all the time. You would be checking and worrying about it all day!
6 – Water!! Stay hydrated!!
7 – a lot of patience… and be ready to be able to control your anger!!
